Poor Mans Orchid

S.x wisetonenis

The colorful orchid like flowers of the Poor Man's Orchid, Schizanthus contrast beautifully against the soft, feathery foliage of this annual plant. The Schizanthus, which is often called the Butterfly Flower, grow to a height of 30cm, forming a neat rounded clump and produce masses of their pretty flowers from July to September. They may be started outdoors in containers and bought inside once they begin to bloom. Schizanthus prefer cool, moist conditions. They will flower best when grown in full sun, however, in warmer climates they should planted in light shade to prolong their growing season.
